Tax Rollback Would Not Have Hurt Health System

In our post yesterday, we highlighted the disingenuous nature of President Stroger’s threats to close hospitals and health clinics if his full sales tax hike isn’t preserved.

In her SouthtownStar column this week, Kristen McQueary backs us up:

In truth, the sales tax could have been rolled back by a half-percentage point without serious impact to service delivery throughout Cook County. That point was proven throughout the remainder of the board meeting as commissioners approved thousands of dollars in workers compensation claims, admitted its hospital billing system is woefully inefficient and heard a discouraging update from the county’s compliance administrator, Mary Robinson.

And, with yesterday’s news of a grand jury investigation into county financial matters, how can we be confident of this administration’s ability to spend one cent of our tax money wisely (or legally).
