Peraica Asks Alvarez for Action Against Stroger

Commissioner Peraica today sent a letter to Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez asking for her to initiate quo warranto proceedings against Todd Stroger over the administration’s illegal and unilateral hiring of the hiring of Mayer Brown, LLP to defend itself in an ongoing investigation of its handling of county finances.

In the letter, Peraica writes:

“This expenditure of an unknown amount does not quality as an “emergency” under the relevant Cook County ordinances.  Therefore, pursuant to 735 ILCS 5/18 102, I hereby respectfully request that you institute quo warranto proceedings against Mr. Stroger on behalf of the people of the State of Illinois in order to recover, in full, any taxpayer funds expended without the proper authority of the Cook County Board of Commissioners.”
